  Decided to get a custom made western hat. After reviewing and talking to several hat makers in Oregon, chose to have Gene Baldwin of Sisters, Oregon make my hat. Drove over and spend better part of 2 hours getting sized, choosing the color and style. Tried on many different shapes and colors. So many variables. He was busy, but wanted to get it to me by Christmas 5 weeks away. Have a few expensive Stetsons, even a 100 percent beaver. Thought that would be the standard. Gene's hat was perfect! Exactly what I wanted. New standard. 100 percent beaver, fit was great, and have received many compliments since. Wanted a bit of a different bash and Gene nailed exactly what I had in mind. It is my favorite of all hats. There are a few custom hats in my family, and Gene's hat is as good as it gets. He is fun to talk to, wonderful stories about people and their hats. You just don't find this kind of experience anymore. It has been almost 1½ years now and it still looks like new. Gene has worked on a few other hats making repairs and adjustments for me. Every time I go there I have an enjoyable visit. Only positive comments , no negatives.
